Happy Spring! This morning, Henry's parents came in and shared the Dr. Seuss story There's a Wocket in my Pocket with us. Afterwards, we thought about what we'd do with a wocket if we found one in our pocket. Many of the children had a high spring fever, for they chose to play outside with it. We later had music class with Kim where we made shakers with plastic eggs. The children should be bringing one home in their bag today so be on the look out. They listened to the way different beans in different amounts make different sounds.
After music, we had another guest reader. Tallulah's grandmother (Yaya) came in and read Horton Hatches the Egg by Dr. Seuss. Since it was our time block for reading buddies, they came in and listened as well. After Yaya was finished reading, the children brainstormed with their buddies what would come out of an egg if they sat on one for 51 weeks like Horton did for the bird in the story. They drew pictures of what they came up with and their buddies wrote about it.
The children welcomed spring by playing hard during both recesses today. They're all out and we've only had quiet rest for about 15 minutes so far!
Thanks to everyone who signed up and showed up for Baking Day on Friday. It was a success! 11,500 shortcakes baked in 12 hours. Way to go!
